Humanitarian Intervention Provides Food Assistance to Displaced People in White Nile

Kosti – Mashaweer

Community kitchens have been opened at the Qoz Al-Salam displacement camp in Kosti locality, White Nile State, to provide meals to more than 29,000 displaced people as part of a 90-day humanitarian intervention.

The project will run from August 15 to November 15, 2026, through 10 community kitchens: eight at Qoz Al-Salam camp in Kosti locality and two at Khor Ajoul camp in Rabak locality.

The project is part of efforts to address food shortages and ease the suffering of displaced people amid growing humanitarian needs across the state.

Qoz Al-Salam camp hosts more than 29,000 displaced people, while the number of displaced people at Khor Ajoul camp exceeds 7,000.

Sharaf Al-Din Ali Ahmed, Acting Director of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in White Nile State, told Mashaweer that “the kitchens will continue providing meals to displaced people for 90 days.”

He highlighted “the importance of the project in supporting displaced families and reducing their food-related burdens.”

Ahmed commended the support provided by the Danish Red Cross, stressing that partnerships among humanitarian organisations help strengthen the response to the growing needs of displaced people in the state.

For his part, Adel Al-Nazir, a displaced person at Qoz Al-Salam camp, told Mashaweer that “the opening of the kitchens represents important assistance for displaced families, particularly amid rising food prices and the difficulty of meeting daily needs.”

He added that “continuing the project for three months will help ease some of the burdens faced by displaced people.”

He called for continued and expanded food assistance to reach the families most in need within the camp.
