A recreational day for children was held at a displacement shelter in Nyala, South Darfur State, as part of the activities of the “Safe Spaces” workshop. The event concluded amid an atmosphere of joy and enthusiastic participation, with the involvement of local women representatives from across the state.
The day featured comedy performances and segments inspired by Sudanese heritage and the arts, aimed at providing children with a safe space for recreation and self-expression, while helping ease the psychological and social pressures caused by displacement and war.
Women representatives from the localities of Marshang, Tulus, Al-Malam and Ad Du’ain, along with representatives from other localities in South Darfur State, participated in the workshop.
Nibras Mahmoud, a member of the Women’s Emergency Room, told Mashaweer that “organizing activities like these gives children a space to express themselves, play and regain part of their normal lives,” stressing that “psychosocial support is a fundamental need for displaced children.”
She added that “the participation of women and local communities in organizing safe spaces improves access to children and the most vulnerable groups, and helps provide them with a safer and more supportive environment during displacement.”
