Sudan has recorded more than 2.7 million malaria cases, according to statements made by the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Sudan last February, highlighting the scale of the burden facing a country exhausted by war, displacement, and the deterioration of health services.
The war has forced health facilities out of service and disrupted parts of vector-control programs, while rainfall, stagnant water, and the accumulation of waste have created favorable conditions for mosquito breeding.
The World Health Organization says that “37 percent of health facilities in Sudan remain out of service.”
As infections continue to rise, the Federal Ministry of Health has moved to intensify interventions in the worst-affected areas, particularly in several localities of Khartoum State. Plans are also underway to expand vector-control operations and coordinate with the Sudanese Red Crescent, alongside vector-control interventions in other states.
