Volunteers at the Abu Al-Naja camp in Gedaref State reviewed the progress of a project aimed at providing children with a safe and supportive environment, with a focus on promoting their psychological and social well-being, as well as learning about the activities and services offered to them within the child-friendly space.
Volunteers from the Young Gadiyan Organization for Peace and Development received a field visit from the UNICEF Protection Officer and Country Representative to the space. The visit included an assessment of its facilities and a review of ongoing activities, as well as an examination of the needs and challenges facing the project and discussions on ways to address them and improve the quality of services in the coming period.
Ayman Mahmoud, a member of the Young Gadiyan Organization for Peace and Development, told Mashawir that “the visit provided an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the role played by the space in providing children with a safe and supportive environment where they can express themselves, learn, and play, thereby contributing to their psychological and social well-being.”
Mahmoud added that “field monitoring of activities helps identify needs more accurately and strengthens coordination among organizations working in child protection, supporting the continuity of services provided to children.”
For his part, Abdelrahim Ahmed Al-Khair, a community activist at Abu Al-Naja camp, said that “child-friendly spaces provide an important outlet for displaced children, offering them an environment that enables interaction, learning, and participation in activities away from the pressures imposed by displacement.”
In remarks to Mashawir, Al-Khair called for “continued support for these spaces and the provision of the resources they need, with greater attention to activities that promote children’s protection and psychological and social well-being, as they are among the groups most affected by the circumstances of war and displacement.”
