At least 15 people were killed and 12 others wounded — some critically — in a strike that targeted a market in El Fasher yesterday (Tuesday), a medical source at El Fasher Hospital told Agence France-Presse today (Wednesday).
In a statement, the El Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination said: “The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia launched a drone attack on a crowded local market in El Fasher, resulting in more than 27 dead and wounded.”
The fierce conflict between the army and its allied Joint Forces on one side, and the RSF on the other, over control of El Fasher — the capital of North Darfur State — has entered advanced stages of territorial contest. Both sides continue to claim control over the strategic city, the last of Darfur’s five state capitals still held by the army.
In the first year of the war (which broke out on April 15, 2023), the RSF seized the capitals of South, East, West, and Central Darfur States.
