Forcing Displaced Families to Leave School Shelters in West Kordofan

West Kordofan – Mashawir

The Emergency Room of Dar Hamar Emergency Room reported that forces of the Rapid Support Forces in Ghubaysh locality, West Kordofan, have given displaced families sheltering in schools a deadline of no more than five days to fully evacuate these facilities.

According to a statement issued by the group, this is a precursor to using schools for military purposes, including training fighters and storing logistical supplies.

The organization expressed deep concern over these measures, noting that forcing thousands of displaced people—including children, women, and the elderly—to leave without providing suitable alternatives exposes them to homelessness and worsens their humanitarian suffering.

It warned that turning educational institutions—considered civilian objects—into military sites constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and could make the area a target for military operations, thereby putting civilians’ lives at risk.

The group called for the protection of civilians and the safeguarding of vital facilities from exploitation in the conflict, stressing its rejection of such practices that further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region.
