Hundreds of displaced people in Darfur face harsh conditions
South Darfur – Mashawir
Bloody tribal clashes in South Darfur State, western Sudan, have resulted in the displacement of hundreds of residents who are now homeless after their properties and savings were completely destroyed.
Local reports indicated that the area of “Hilat Yahya Doud,” located west of “Um Zaifa,” is experiencing a humanitarian disaster after fires consumed most of the village, leaving behind destruction and displaced people out in the open.
The area of “Um Zaifa” had witnessed armed clashes last Tuesday between the Tarjam and Asanqor tribes, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides.
The tragedy was not limited to the fighting, but extended to the near-total burning of the village and the looting of residents’ property, forcing hundreds to sleep on the ground under the open sky amid a complete lack of basic necessities such as food and clothing.
The United Nations describes the conflict in Sudan as “the largest humanitarian crisis in the world,” as it has caused the displacement of around 13 million people, while half of the country’s population faces severe difficulties in accessing food.
