The sanctions committee of the United Nations Security Council has added Al-Qoni Hamdan Dagalo, the brother of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to the UN sanctions list.

According to the committee, Al-Qoni played a key role in leading efforts by the RSF to procure weapons and military equipment.

The sanctions panel also revealed the existence of an international network involving three foreign nationals: Alvaro Andres, Claudia Viviana, and Mateo Andres.

The committee stated that Al-Qoni was designated for his involvement in actions and policies that threaten peace, security, and stability in Darfur.

It noted that he serves as the procurement director for the RSF and has contributed to prolonging the war by overseeing the acquisition of weapons and military supplies.

The committee further added that his role in arming the RSF has directly contributed to the El Fasher in North Darfur, as well as to RSF operations in other.
