The Sudanese Center for Civil Aviation Studies and Research has issued warnings about the risks of a potential spread of Hantavirus.
The center called on Sudanese civil aviation authorities to implement preventive health measures inside airports.
In a statement, the center urged tighter health procedures at airports, especially for travelers arriving from countries where infections or outbreaks have been reported. The measures, it said, are part of internationally recognized precautions aimed at protecting public health without disrupting travel and air traffic, particularly amid increasing international travel activity.
Hantavirus refers to a group of viruses primarily transmitted through rodents, especially rats and mice, as the virus is found in their urine, droppings, and saliva.
The center stressed the importance of increasing the readiness of airport quarantine units for the early detection of suspected cases, conducting regular inspections of food storage and in-flight catering facilities, requiring cleaning crews and workers to use personal protective equipment, and ensuring direct coordination between civil aviation authorities, health authorities, and international health organizations.
