The International Organization for Migration revealed that widespread displacement affecting around 50,000 people has occurred as a result of military operations in the Blue Nile region. Those displaced were forced to flee their homes in the areas of Kurmuk, Bau, and Qeisan following the escalation of conflict in mid-January.
According to the organization’s report, attacks carried out since the beginning of the year by an alliance between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the SPLM-North movement on the towns of Kurmuk, Qeisan, and Bau also caused severe destruction to infrastructure and disrupted commercial and agricultural activities, worsening the living crisis in the region.
The region has been experiencing a growing humanitarian crisis for several months. By the end of March, it was hosting around 361,000 displaced people spread across 252 sites in seven different localities.
