The “Somoud” Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces welcomed the Banjul Declaration on Sudan, adopted by the Joint Fact-Finding Mission of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rig

Addis Ababa – Mashawir

The alliance praised the declaration’s firm stance against the violations and crimes committed by both the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces, as well as its emphasis on the importance of integrating regional and international accountability mechanisms to protect civilians and document abuses.

The declaration also stressed that no lasting solution can be achieved through military means, and that sustainable peace in Sudan requires addressing the root causes of the conflict and pursuing justice and accountability through a comprehensive civilian-led political process.

The alliance further commended the declaration’s call for the establishment of an African-led accountability mechanism to prosecute grave violations in Sudan. It said that, once approved through the relevant African Union institutions — particularly the African Peace and Security Council — such a mechanism would affirm Africans’ central role and moral commitment to achieving sustainable peace in line with the Sudanese people’s legitimate aspirations for freedom, peace, justice, and lasting democratic civilian rule.

The alliance added: “We join the declaration in calling on all parties to the conflict to take immediate steps toward a sustainable ceasefire, supported by effective monitoring arrangements and confidence-building measures. The Sudanese people are suffering immensely as a result of this criminal war, which has now entered its fourth year. Accordingly, we will continue our efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in our country and confront all attempts to prolong the suffering of our people, who deserve peace, freedom, and justice.
