New Political Roadmap Proposed to End the War and Restore Sudan’s Democratic Transition
Nairobi – Mashawir
Sudanese forces signatory to the “Declaration of Principles for Building a New Nation” presented a new political vision during their meetings in Nairobi aimed at ending the war and restoring the path of democratic transition.
The proposal came through a paper presented by Yasir Arman and Babiker Faisal under the title: “A New Roadmap that Sustains Solutions and Restores the Spirit of the Revolution.”
The paper was discussed during the third session of the second day of the meetings.
It stressed that Sudan’s crisis cannot be resolved through partial settlements or agreements limited to the military parties in conflict, but rather through a comprehensive political process that addresses the historical roots of the crisis and establishes a democratic civilian state based on equal citizenship, justice, and the rule of law.
The paper proposed three parallel tracks to end the war:
A humanitarian track focused on protecting civilians, opening safe corridors, and facilitating the return of displaced persons.
A ceasefire track leading toward a permanent agreement.
A political track addressing issues of governance, the constitution, the relationship between religion and the state, and the rebuilding of both military and civilian institutions.
The presenters emphasized the need to create a suitable political climate by releasing detainees, lifting sieges on cities, and ending violations, alongside expanding civilian participation and involving anti-war forces in designing the political process.
They also stressed that any credible settlement must be based on justice, accountability, and an end to impunity.
The roadmap further included a proposal to establish a preparatory committee composed of representatives from different parties. The committee would be responsible for setting the foundations for political dialogue, negotiation mechanisms, and participation criteria, paving the way for an agreement that would establish a civilian transitional period and a permanent constitution.
The paper also underlined the importance of unifying civilian initiatives and building regional and international support to ensure the success of the political process and revive the spirit of the Sudanese revolution.
