International Warnings Over Humanitarian Corridor Supplies Running Out in Sudan

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has warned that supplies for the “humanitarian corridor” in Sudan could run out in less than two weeks, with the corridor potentially being forced to shut down by the end of the year unless additional funding is secured. This comes as more than 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

More than 100 humanitarian organizations rely on the corridor to deliver shelter materials, non-food items, and hygiene supplies to people in need. According to the IOM, more than 2.84 million people in Sudan have benefited from these supplies since July 2023.

At the same time, Sudan is facing a widespread hunger and displacement crisis, with 20 million people experiencing acute hunger and 14 million displaced, according to the World Food Programme (WFP), which has warned that it may have to scale back its operations in the coming weeks.

These developments come amid the ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023 and has spread to 13 of Sudan’s 18 states. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, while UN and international agencies estimate that around 13 million people have been displaced.
