Sudanese Complain of Transport Shortages and Soaring Bus Fares at Border Crossings
Argeen – Mashawir
The crisis of overcrowding among Sudanese returnees from Egypt at the Argeen border crossing has resurfaced ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday, with growing complaints about the shortage of transport buses and the sharp increase in ticket prices.
The situation has left travelers stranded for long hours, sitting along the roadsides, while some returnees chose to remain in Egypt until the crisis subsides, which reportedly began easing on the eve of Eid.
Sudanese activists shared videos and testimonies documenting difficult humanitarian conditions at the Argeen border crossing amid extremely hot weather and the presence of sick travelers unable to remain exposed outdoors.
They noted that many families are forced to wait until buses become available at affordable prices, enabling them to return to the areas from which they were displaced because of the war, now entering its fourth year.
Meanwhile, the director of the Argeen border crossing, Mubarak Dawood, confirmed that the crisis involving stranded travelers has started to ease after additional passenger buses were provided to transport returnees to their various states across Sudan.
