The Governor of Kassala State, Al-Sadiq Al-Azraq, has announced the extension of the state of emergency in the state for an additional three months following a rise in tribal tensions in recent days.
Tribal tensions in Kassala have escalated due to the circulation of hate speech on social media, alongside calls for the demarcation of boundaries between tribes and traditional administrations, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of tribal conflicts.
Meanwhile, the United Popular Front for Liberation and Justice expressed concern over certain statements and remarks made during a meeting held in Aroma City, attended by the Kassala State Government, police and security officials, as well as a number of tribal, community, and local leaders.
The Front called on all official, community, and political actors to work toward calming the situation and preventing any actions that could fuel tensions or deepen divisions among the various communities of Kassala State.
