Rainfall Adds New Hardships for Displaced People in Blue Nile

Blue Nile – Mashawir

Sudanese displaced people in the Blue Nile region are facing multiple challenges with the onset of the rainy season, as hundreds are living in the open amid a severe shelter crisis.

Speaking to Mashawir, Hussein Al-Sharif, who was displaced from Kurmuk to Damazin, said that humanitarian and security conditions have become extremely difficult, particularly with the worsening food shortage and the lack of healthcare services.

He added that many displaced families are living in the open or under the shade of trees due to the unavailability of shelter materials, making them especially vulnerable to diseases such as malaria and cholera, at a time when healthcare services are largely absent.

Al-Sharif explained that the expected increase in rainfall in the coming weeks could become a major public health threat, as stagnant water creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flies, contributing to the spread of disease.

The displaced resident further noted that people are in urgent need of blankets, mosquito nets, and tents to cope with the humanitarian crisis and protect themselves from the impacts of the rainy season.
