Médecins Sans Frontières Launches Mobile Vaccination Campaign Targeting 54 Villages in Darfur

North Darfur – Mashawir

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said that, in partnership with the Ministry of Health in the town of Tawila, North Darfur State, it is supporting a mobile preventive vaccination campaign aimed at reaching remote communities located more than 10 kilometers from the nearest primary healthcare facility (Katur and Dobo health centers).

The organization stated that the campaign in Katur began on June 2. Over a period of ten days, five Ministry of Health mobile teams dedicated to routine immunization are working to reach communities across 54 remote villages.

MSF explained that, in the absence of paved roads, donkeys and camels remain the only means of accessing these villages.

The organization added that the teams spend between one and eight hours traveling through rugged and difficult terrain to move between village clusters.

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, team leaders return every three days to replenish cooling boxes with fresh ice packs and restock vaccine supplies as needed.

“Our goal is to ensure that all children under the age of five are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases, in accordance with the routine immunization schedule approved by the Ministry of Health,” the organization said.
