In Just Six Months: Shocking Toll on Sudanese Children from Airstrikes

South Kordofan – Mashawir

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that nearly 300 children have been killed during the first half of this year as a result of airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery shelling. The children lost their lives in their homes, in markets, while fleeing violence, during tribal clashes, and even while seeking medical care in hospitals.

In a statement, UNICEF announced the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the cities of Al-Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan through a convoy of eight trucks carrying life-saving health and nutrition supplies. The aid was intended for thousands of children and their families who have become isolated from the rest of the country due to the deteriorating security situation.

The statement explained that the humanitarian convoy’s cargo is intended to support approximately 39,000 people who have been largely cut off from any form of humanitarian assistance.

UNICEF also reported that relief supplies had reached the town of Al-Debibat in South Kordofan State, noting that efforts continue to reach children and families in hard-to-access areas. However, active fighting and ongoing clashes around strategic locations and major supply routes in the Kordofan region continue to severely restrict humanitarian access.
