A group of volunteers has launched an initiative to light residential neighborhoods using solar-powered lamps, particularly amid the worsening electricity outage crisis.
On Tuti Island in Khartoum, local residents have also launched the “Night Emergency” initiative, which aims to provide medical services to citizens outside the operating hours of official health centers, which are limited to the morning period.
The initiative was established in response to residents’ need for urgent healthcare during nighttime hours. Teams of volunteers and young doctors have been mobilized to provide first aid and emergency medical services, helping to fill a significant gap in the local healthcare system.
Omar Dalil, the initiative’s coordinator, said that the idea was supported by people from the area living abroad, who contributed the funding needed to equip the medical teams.
He explained that a number of paramedics have been assigned to different neighborhoods across the island, with each team responsible for delivering medical services within its designated area.
