Blood on Schoolbooks: El Obeid Burns Under RSF Drone Attacks

A deadly attack struck Jeel Al-Raed School in El Obeid, the capital of Sudan’s North Kordofan State, as the city continues to endure repeated artillery shelling and drone attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Vital infrastructure, schools, and residential neighborhoods have increasingly come under fire.

Deaths and Injuries

Speaking from his hospital bed, one of the civilians injured in a recent drone strike that wounded five people appealed to the world’s conscience, saying:

“Where is humanity? Look at what is happening here. These are inhumane and immoral acts that no human conscience can bear.”

While the hospital cares for the injured, Airport District still bears the scars of a devastating attack carried out two weeks ago, when heavy shelling killed 15 civilians and buried entire families beneath the rubble of their homes.

Eyewitnesses described widespread destruction, alleging that the missiles deliberately targeted unarmed civilians with no involvement in the conflict.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The tragedy in El Obeid extends far beyond the immediate loss of life. The North Kordofan State Government has accused the RSF of attempting to “strangle the city” through systematic attacks on electricity generation facilities and drinking water infrastructure.

Local officials described these attacks as failed attempts to force residents from their homes and depopulate the city, insisting that despite the destruction, they would not halt life in the state.

International Concern

International humanitarian organizations have condemned the attacks as “horrific” and warned of catastrophic consequences should a broader assault on El Obeid take place in the coming days. They called for an immediate and unconditional halt to military operations targeting the city.

For the people of El Obeid, the suffering extends beyond damaged buildings and destroyed infrastructure. The conflict has left deep emotional scars on an entire community. Children have been injured while sitting in classrooms, families have been buried beneath the ruins of their homes, and fear continues to overshadow daily life as the international community watches with growing concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis.
