IOM: More Than 219,000 People Displaced from Kordofan
Kordofan – Mashawir
The International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has reported that approximately 219,319 people were displaced from the Kordofan region between October 25, 2025, and June 23, 2026.
According to the DTM, the displaced population is spread across 1,012 locations in 89 localities across 14 Sudanese states, reflecting the continuing impact of the conflict and the expansion of displacement into different parts of the country.
In recent weeks, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have intensified aerial attacks on El Obeid, targeting civilian infrastructure, including electricity facilities, fuel installations, and major highways leading out of the city. The group has also deployed military reinforcements, raising concerns reminiscent of the period preceding its assault on El Fasher in North Darfur late last year.
El Obeid, which has an original population of around 500,000, is currently hosting an estimated 100,000 internally displaced people who fled violence in surrounding areas. The city occupies a strategic position on a key route linking Darfur, where the RSF controls large areas in western Sudan, with central and eastern parts of the country under the control of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
