Residents of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, are fighting a daily battle for survival, relying on whatever resources are available to maintain the bare minimum of normal life.
The humanitarian situation has worsened over the past three weeks, with shortages of food and essential commodities, deteriorating electricity and drinking water services, and repeated drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting trucks and convoys transporting food and fuel to the city.
Residents said the city has recently seen a gradual improvement in the drinking water crisis, thanks to community-led initiatives and interventions by the North Kordofan Humanitarian Aid Commission and its partners.
A resident of the city’s western district described living conditions as extremely difficult, particularly due to the water shortage, noting that the price of a barrel of water has risen to around 25,000 Sudanese pounds (approximately US$5 at the parallel market exchange rate).
