Teachers’ Strike in Kassala Shuts Down 750 Schools Amid Fears for the Academic Year

Kassala – Mashawir

The Teachers’ Committee in Kassala State has revealed that more than 750 schools across the state have been closed as a result of a strike involving over 10,000 teachers.

The committee stated that the strike has now entered its fifth week without any response from the authorities to the teachers’ demands.

It stressed that the strike will continue until the teachers’ demands are met, particularly for wages and benefits that reflect the rising cost of living in Sudan.

The committee also said that the authorities summoned a number of striking teachers, including the head of the Kassala State Teachers’ Committee and the committee’s Secretary-General, and subjected them to questioning during the first month of the strike.
