Initiatives Deliver Drinking Water and Food to Displacement Camps in El Obeid

El Obeid – Mashaweer

Volunteers from community initiatives operating in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, have announced the continuation of a water distribution program serving several displacement centers across the city. The initiative aims to provide safe drinking water to internally displaced people and the host community amid growing humanitarian needs and a worsening water crisis.

Hatem Jaber, a volunteer in eastern El Obeid, told Mashaweer that the current phase of the program has reached camps in the eastern part of the city, the Khor Taggat suburb, and several areas hosting large numbers of displaced families.

He added that these voluntary initiatives are part of a broader response to the increasing demand for water in communities accommodating large numbers of displaced people.

Jaber also noted that additional initiatives are scheduled over the coming days to provide food, medicines, and healthcare support to displaced families, particularly as their humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Ali Abu Madina, head of the initiative, told Mashaweer that the program seeks to help bridge the widening gap in water supply caused by mounting pressure on local water sources as a result of the influx of displaced people into shelter centers.

He highlighted the strong cooperation shown by residents of El Obeid and reaffirmed the volunteers’ commitment to continuing and expanding the water distribution program to cover all displacement centers, ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those fleeing the hardships of war.

El Obeid has witnessed a sharp deterioration in humanitarian and living conditions in recent weeks, with declining water and electricity services and shortages of food supplies following intensified drone attacks on the city. The attacks have placed additional strain on essential services and significantly increased the population’s need for humanitarian assistance.
