UN Fact-Finding Mission: Urgent Investigation Launched into Alleged Violations in El Obeid

Washington – Mashaweer

The United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out mass killings, the systematic abduction of women and girls, and widespread gang rapes in El Fasher.

The Mission added that these violations provide further evidence that the atrocities committed by the warring parties in Sudan constitute clear indicators of genocide.

It further noted that similar patterns of devastating abuses against civilians are now being reported in the city of El Obeid.

The Mission called for an urgent investigation into all alleged human rights violations and abuses committed in El Obeid.

It also stated that its recent investigations have uncovered additional evidence of atrocities in El Fasher, including arbitrary detention, torture, hostage-taking for ransom, and the enforced disappearance of civilians.

The Mission expressed growing concern over the situation in El Obeid, where more than half a million residents and over 100,000 internally displaced people face worsening insecurity, attacks on critical infrastructure, and restrictions that severely limit access to essential services.
