UN Mission: RSF Carried Out Mass Killings and Gang Rapes in El Fasher
Geneva – Mashaweer
The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan has stated that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out brutal mass killings, systematic abductions of women and girls, and gang rapes in El Fasher.
The mission said these “heinous atrocities” constitute clear indicators that genocide is occurring in the country.
A new report by the mission explains that its supplementary investigations, presented in an addendum to its previous report titled “Indicators of Genocide in El Fasher,” provide additional evidence of serious violations of international law, including arbitrary detention, torture, hostage-taking for ransom, and the enforced disappearance of civilians.
According to the head of the mission, Mohamed Chande Othman, the investigations not only strengthen the evidentiary basis for the mission’s conclusions regarding El Fasher but also reflect its ongoing efforts to document the violations that have devastated communities across Darfur.
The UN official warned that the patterns documented by the mission—including the siege of cities, attacks on civilian infrastructure, restrictions on humanitarian aid, and widespread abuses against civilians—serve as a “stark warning” that requires urgent international action to prevent further atrocities.
