Sudan Welcomes Peace Initiatives and Approves Response to Mediation Proposals

Khartoum – Mashaweer

Sudan’s Security and Defense Council on Sunday reaffirmed its support for initiatives aimed at achieving peace, emphasizing its positive engagement with the proposal submitted by the mediation countries regarding the peace process in the country.

The Council held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of the President of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, during which it reviewed the mediators’ proposed framework and expressed its appreciation for their continued efforts.

Describing itself as the sole authority responsible for matters relating to war, peace, and negotiations, the Council announced that it had finalized a consensus response to the mediation proposal, reaffirming its firm commitment to supporting the peace process.

According to the Council’s statement, the Sudanese government remains fully open to any initiatives that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people, provided they preserve Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

In the same statement, the Council dismissed as inaccurate the recent leaks and information circulating on social media regarding the mediation process, calling on all parties to refrain from disseminating issues that could affect national security or undermine ongoing peace efforts.

The official statement follows the disclosure of a U.S. proposal outlining five key pillars for resolving the Sudanese crisis. It also comes after a recent meeting in Cairo between Lieutenant General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, a member of the Sovereignty Council, and the U.S. Special Envoy.
