A group of Sudanese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the fields of humanitarian action and human rights signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday in Kampala, Uganda, to establish the Humanitarian Action and Human Rights Umbrella. The initiative aims to strengthen coordination and cooperation among civil society organizations and enhance humanitarian and human rights responses.
The MoU was signed by the Sudanese Organization for Human Rights, the African Organization for Rights and Development, and the Qadem Organization for Refugee Empowerment. The partnership seeks to unify the efforts of member organizations, strengthen institutional partnerships, coordinate humanitarian interventions, and promote and protect human rights, particularly in light of the growing challenges facing Sudanese refugees and conflict-affected communities in both Sudan and Uganda.
Humanitarian activist Mohamed Ali Salem told Mashaweer that the MoU provides a framework for cooperation among member organizations in several areas, including legal protection, humanitarian assistance, psychosocial support, refugee protection, women’s and youth empowerment, peacebuilding, disaster and emergency management, capacity building, the development of joint programs and projects, as well as advocacy, monitoring, and documentation activities.
Meanwhile, legal expert Issa Saleh described the signing of the MoU, in his remarks to Mashaweer, as a strategic step toward establishing an independent and effective coordination platform. He said the initiative would strengthen collective action, expand partnerships, mobilize resources, and improve the efficiency and sustainability of humanitarian response, ultimately serving refugees and conflict-affected communities while promoting the values of human dignity, justice, and human rights.
