The Golo Emergency Response Rooms in Tawila locality, Central Darfur State, have continued implementing a project to provide safe drinking water and health education at the Daba Naira displacement camp. The initiative is supported by the Fur Diaspora Union as part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to improve public health conditions and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks among displaced communities.
The project aims to ensure access to safe and clean drinking water while conducting health awareness campaigns on personal hygiene and the prevention of diseases associated with contaminated water, addressing the serious public health challenges facing displacement camps.
Adam Hassan, a volunteer activist, told Mashaweer that the project has improved displaced families’ access to safe water while increasing awareness of proper hygiene practices.
He noted that health education activities have become increasingly essential as the risk of disease outbreaks rises during the rainy season.
He added that continuing such interventions helps protect displaced families, particularly children and women, and called for the project to be expanded to reach more camps and displacement-affected communities.
Meanwhile, Suleiman Ali, a member of the Tawila Emergency Response Rooms Coordination Council, told Mashaweer that the project demonstrates the importance of community partnerships in strengthening the humanitarian response.
He stressed that providing safe water and promoting health awareness are two fundamental pillars for preventing disease and enhancing the resilience of affected communities.
Ali added that the Coordination Council will continue working with partners and supporting organizations to expand water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs and health awareness initiatives, helping improve living conditions for displaced people and respond to their growing humanitarian needs.
