Community groups and grassroots initiatives in Kas Locality, South Darfur State, held a coordination and awareness meeting to discuss ways to strengthen community peace and expand the role of women in promoting social change and cohesion amid the challenges created by the ongoing conflict.
Participants emphasized the importance of expanding community-led initiatives that promote a culture of peace, raise public awareness of the values of peaceful coexistence, and support women’s participation in community reconciliation and sustainable peacebuilding efforts.
Speaking to Mashaweer, community activist Saleh Idris said:
> “Local communities have a major responsibility in promoting a culture of dialogue and rejecting hate speech.”
He noted that empowering women and ensuring their active participation in community initiatives are essential pillars for strengthening social peace and addressing the consequences of war.
Idris added that continued meetings of this kind help unify the efforts of community initiatives, create platforms for coordination and the exchange of experiences, and enhance communities’ ability to overcome the impacts of conflict while supporting long-term stability and peace.
