Volunteers have carried out cholera prevention awareness activities in the Ajal Hadid area of the Trigen Refugee Camp in southeastern Chad. The initiative featured performances by the Al-Ajawid Comedy Troupe, which delivered key public health messages through educational theater aimed at simplifying health information and encouraging community engagement.
The campaign marks the beginning of a series of training workshops targeting young people in refugee camps across southeastern Chad. The program seeks to strengthen their role in promoting health awareness and preventing the spread of diseases and epidemics.
Abdel Aleem Abakar, a member of the Sudanese Volunteers Organization, told Mashaweer that the activities are being implemented in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Chad’s Ministry of Health, with support from the European Union.
He explained that the program is designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to promote health messages and encourage preventive practices within their communities, helping to curb the spread of diseases, particularly cholera.
He added that involving young people in such initiatives strengthens their capacities and empowers them to play an active role in protecting refugee communities and improving community responses to public health risks.
Saddam Hamed, one of the participants in the awareness activities, told Mashaweer that the initiative highlights the importance of cooperation between humanitarian organizations and local communities in promoting public health awareness.
He noted that training and empowering young people to lead awareness campaigns within the camps can have a lasting impact on protecting refugees’ health and reducing the spread of disease outbreaks.
