Project Supports Livelihoods for Displaced Families in Sudanese IDP Settlements

The Dira Darbat Emergency Room in Tawila locality, North Darfur State, has implemented a project to provide agricultural tools and improved seeds to 200 displaced households, targeting farming families and small-scale producers. The initiative aims to strengthen community resilience, support local agricultural production, and improve livelihoods.

The project was carried out with support from the Tawila and Jebel Marra Emergency Rooms Coordination Council to help displaced families resume farming activities, increase agricultural productivity, and secure their basic food needs, thereby contributing to greater economic and social stability.

Mahjoub Mohammed, a member of the Tawila Emergency Room, told Mashaweer that supporting farmers with agricultural equipment and improved seeds is an important step toward strengthening food security in displacement-affected areas.

He stressed that investing in agricultural production reduces dependence on humanitarian assistance and enhances communities’ ability to withstand ongoing challenges.

For his part, one of the beneficiaries, Abdulaziz Mohammed Abkar, told Mashaweer that receiving agricultural inputs at this time gives displaced families a real opportunity to make use of the current farming season and cultivate their land.

He expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue, enabling displaced people to become more self-reliant and improve their living conditions.
