The East Darfur Emergency Rooms have launched a new initiative, in partnership with community mediation committees, to reopen and rehabilitate livestock corridors and seasonal grazing routes, while organizing the movement of herders and farmers as part of broader efforts to strengthen social cohesion and reduce conflicts over natural resources.
The project includes clearing and reopening traditional livestock routes and watering points, demarcating grazing corridors, installing directional signs, facilitating the safe movement of herders and farmers, conducting community awareness sessions to promote peaceful coexistence, and supporting local mediation committees in resolving disputes and containing community tensions.
Speaking to Mashaweer, Al-Sadiq Hamdan, a member of the East Darfur Emergency Rooms, said the initiative represents “an important step toward protecting livelihoods and strengthening stability across the state.”
He added that “organizing grazing routes helps reduce friction between herders and farmers, while supporting peaceful coexistence and preserving community harmony.”
