Women’s Association Supports Livelihood Projects for Displaced Women in Darfur

The Merim Al-Malha Women’s Association in North Darfur State has distributed seeds and agricultural tools to women-headed displaced households as part of its efforts to support the most vulnerable communities and strengthen agricultural production and food security at the start of the rainy season.

Zamzam Saleh, a member of the association, told Mashaweer that the initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing programs to promote sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance amid the worsening humanitarian situation.

She added that the association has recently focused on supporting productive households and enabling them to make the most of the current farming season to secure their food needs and strengthen their resilience.

Meanwhile, volunteer activist Ibtisam Abdel Karim from North Darfur told Mashaweer that the intervention responds to the urgent need to assist households headed by women, noting that agriculture remains the region’s primary source of food and income.

She emphasized that providing seeds and farming tools offers these families a genuine opportunity to produce their own food and reduce their dependence on humanitarian assistance.

The campaign is part of broader community initiatives aimed at economically empowering displaced women and supporting conflict-affected communities by boosting local agricultural production and improving food security during the current farming season.
