Warnings of a Humanitarian Collapse in Shelters for Displaced Sudanese

The Golo Emergency Response Rooms in the Jebel Marra region have warned of rapidly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in displacement shelters, stating that thousands of families face increasing risks due to the sharp decline in essential services and the depletion of available resources, while the gap between humanitarian needs and available assistance continues to widen.

In an update issued on Tuesday, the Emergency Response Rooms reported that displacement centers are experiencing major disruptions and reductions in the operation of community kitchens, delays in the distribution of food baskets, and shortages of emergency shelter materials. These services had been the primary source of food and support for displaced families, raising concerns over worsening hunger and malnutrition.

Jamal Adam, a member of the Golo Emergency Response Room, told Mashaweer that the onset of the rainy season has significantly intensified humanitarian challenges, with growing risks of seasonal disease outbreaks amid severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies, as well as inadequate shelter conditions that fail to provide sufficient protection for displaced families.

The Emergency Response Rooms called on regional and international humanitarian organizations, as well as United Nations agencies, to intervene urgently by resuming support for community kitchens, providing food baskets, essential medicines, emergency supplies, and shelter materials needed to protect displaced people from heavy rains and harsh weather conditions.

Meanwhile, volunteer activist Suleiman Abdullah told Mashaweer that a rapid humanitarian response has become an urgent necessity to prevent the crisis from escalating.

He stressed that any further delay in delivering food, medicines, and shelter materials could lead to an even greater humanitarian catastrophe, particularly as the number of displaced people continues to rise and humanitarian needs increase during the rainy season.
