Theatrical Performances Promote Peace and Counter Hate Speech in Sudan

The Youth Union of Al-Dibab locality in West Kordofan State has launched a community initiative aimed at promoting a culture of peace, strengthening peaceful coexistence, and countering hate speech amid the ongoing war and its impact on society.
Speaking to Mashaweer, Union Chairman Mohamed Osman said that “the initiative seeks to strengthen the role of young people in promoting coexistence and rejecting violence, while reinforcing the values of dialogue and tolerance within the community.”
He stressed that “peacebuilding requires the participation of all segments of society.”
Osman added that the union had organized a number of short educational theatrical performances addressing issues such as violence, carrying weapons, revenge, and other practices that threaten the security and stability of the community.
He noted that “using the arts and simple messages helps reach audiences and influence them.”
Osman emphasized that “peacebuilding is a shared responsibility,” stressing that young people are a key pillar in efforts to build a safer and more stable future and strengthen social cohesion in the face of the impacts of war.
