Sudanese Universities Support Efforts to Combat Hate Speech and Promote Dialogue

Sudanese universities have announced their intention to play a central role in supporting social peace by raising awareness and promoting the values of peace, citizenship, and national belonging, particularly amid the repercussions of the war and the social divisions affecting the country.

This role is being pursued through academic and community activities and initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of dialogue, acceptance of diversity, and rejection of hate speech, contributing to building a more cohesive society and preparing future generations to participate in Sudan’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Speaking to Mashaweer, Al-Neelain University academic affairs official Al-Nazir Mohamed Al-Noor said, “The university’s participation in the Social Peace Festival in Khartoum stems from its academic and community mission and its belief that universities are not merely centers of knowledge, but active institutions in promoting the values of peace and tolerance and strengthening social cohesion.”

Al-Noor noted that “community service is one of the university’s priorities,” adding that “the current phase requires concerted national efforts, the promotion of dialogue and acceptance of others, and the rejection of violence.”

He stressed that “students and faculty members serve as ambassadors for peace and partners in building a more cohesive and stable society.”
