The “Peace” Sports League concluded in Nyala, South Darfur State, with 24 teams participating in the competition, which drew a large public and official turnout. Former football players, executive officials, representatives of popular and native administrations, and members of different segments of the community also attended.
Fans at the final match held a banner reading, “No to Drug Use… Yes to Peace,” in an awareness message highlighting the role of sports in promoting social peace, raising young people’s awareness of the dangers of drugs, and helping curb social problems.
Speaking to Mashaweer, South Darfur community activist Issa Marzouk said, “Sports serve as a bridge for communication and rapprochement among communities.”
He noted that “the league helped bring young people together under one banner, away from fanaticism and violence.”
He added that “organizing the league represents a new starting point for football in the state, paving the way for local competitions and greater participation by teams in national and African competitions in the coming period.”
