The head of the local administration in Kurmuk, a town bordering Ethiopia, confirmed the discovery of mass graves containing civilians, including children and women, who were allegedly executed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Kurmuk Commissioner Abdelati Mohamed Al-Faki said that during an army sweep in the northeastern direction of Kurmuk, more than a month after the town was recaptured, mass graves containing the remains of 25 civilians were discovered. The victims included women, children, elderly people, and workers at Kurmuk Hospital, who were allegedly executed by the RSF.
Al-Faki said the incident took place near Mount Fankat, which the group had used as a launch site for drones during its attack on Kurmuk.
The Sudanese army recaptured Kurmuk on July 8, after the RSF had taken control of the town on March 8 this year, during a military operation backed by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
