Ongoing clashes and fighting between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Blue Nile region have triggered severe humanitarian and health crises, driven by large-scale displacement. More than 70,000 people have reportedly been displaced from Kurmuk and another 20,000 from Geissan, amid the destruction of basic service infrastructure, particularly following the RSF’s takeover of the two border towns with Ethiopia.
Blue Nile Regional Health Minister Jamal Nasser said that “the ministry has dispatched several medical convoys to assist displaced and affected people in Wad Al-Mahi locality, providing them with healthcare services and medicines.”
He issued an urgent appeal to international and health organizations operating in the humanitarian sector to accelerate the delivery of immediate emergency assistance to displaced people, particularly medicines.
He warned that the epidemiological situation could deteriorate further amid continued rainfall, at a time when local resources are unable to meet the growing needs of the displaced population.
