The Humanitarian Crisis Is Depriving Thousands of Children of Education in Sudan

Darfur – Mashawir

The International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has reported the displacement of approximately 1,275 people from the Umm Baro locality in North Darfur, as deteriorating security conditions resulting from armed clashes forced them to flee to the Karnoy area of North Darfur or cross the border into Chad.

Displaced people in North and West Darfur are facing daily hardships amid severe shortages of drinking water, food, and healthcare.

In its latest update on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, the IOM said the displaced people fled the villages of Gorbora and Wadi Arkoi between September 3 and 6 due to the deteriorating security situation.

Volunteers reported that hundreds of children have been deprived of education, while families are forced to wait for hours each day for water trucks. At the same time, humanitarian organizations have been unable to reach areas experiencing a severe deterioration in humanitarian conditions because of ongoing military operations.
