Harsh Humanitarian Conditions for Displaced People in East Darfur

Displaced people at the Al-Nakheel–Khazan Jadid camp in Shairiya locality, East Darfur State, are facing difficult humanitarian and living conditions amid shortages of food, drinking water and basic daily necessities, as well as rising living costs.

The Local Coordination Council of the Shairiya Locality Emergency Rooms told Mashawir that “life inside the camp is extremely difficult, with some families forced to survive on very basic meals, including ambaz and greens cooked with water and salt, due to limited food supplies and high prices.”

According to council member Seddig Abdelrahman, who spoke to Mashawir, the suffering of children is particularly severe, especially given the difficulty of obtaining food and safe drinking water.

He pointed to “the growing need to provide water and food supplies that can help families cope with their difficult living conditions.”

Abdelrahman explained that “what the council observed during its most recent visit to the camp reflects not merely shortages of certain necessities, but a humanitarian situation requiring urgent and sustained intervention by the relevant authorities, humanitarian organizations and donors to provide food, water and essential living supplies.”

The Local Coordination Council of the Shairiya Locality Emergency Rooms affirmed that it continues to monitor the conditions of displaced people and communicate their needs to the relevant authorities.

It called for an urgent response to alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions.
