Temporary Shelters for Displaced People in White Nile

White Nile State has completed arrangements to relocate displaced people currently hosted at the Qoz Al-Salam camp in Kosti, in preparation for receiving them at the newly established Eastern Camp in Tendelti. The new camp was set up to ease growing overcrowding in displacement centers.

Qoz Al-Salam Camp has witnessed a significant influx of displaced people arriving from areas of the Kordofan region, exacerbating shelter conditions and increasing pressure on basic services amid difficult humanitarian circumstances.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Tendelti Locality, Abdel Basit Jaafar Ibrahim, told Mashawir that “the locality is hosting large numbers of displaced people in Camps 15 and 16, in addition to others staying in homes and villages.”

He noted that “the locality is currently preparing to receive displaced people at the newly established Eastern Camp.”

Ibrahim added that “Tendelti is a border locality that enjoys security and stability. However, the large displaced population has placed increasing pressure on services and infrastructure, particularly in the health, sanitation, education and water sectors.”

He stressed that “support from partners and humanitarian actors will help strengthen the locality’s capacity to provide essential services to displaced people and host communities and ease the pressure on infrastructure.”

For his part, White Nile community activist Al-Fadil Qasim Al-Barei told Mashawir that “relocating displaced people to the new camp could help reduce overcrowding and improve shelter conditions, but it requires the provision of basic services alongside the relocation process.”

He highlighted “the importance of providing water, healthcare, sanitation, food and shelter materials, while ensuring that assistance reaches displaced people regularly in a way that takes their needs into account and reduces pressure on host communities.”
