UNICEF Announces Emergency Education Plan for Sudan

Khartoum – Mashawir

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced an emergency education plan for Sudan aimed at helping 3.2 million displaced children make up for learning losses resulting from displacement and the consequences of the war.

The organization said that “the plan seeks to provide education opportunities for children who have been deprived of schooling due to the exceptional circumstances facing the country,” as part of Sudan’s Primary Education Emergency Programme.

According to the latest statistics released by UNICEF in March 2025, around 17 million Sudanese children have been out of school for more than two years due to the war and ongoing instability, in what the organization has described as a “generation at risk.”

UNICEF also noted that “around 90 percent of school-age children—nearly 19 million—are missing out on formal education.”
