Water Project for Displaced People in Northern Sudan Supported by Volunteer Organizations

Volunteer organizations have begun preparing the targeted site at Kilometer 70 Camp for displaced people in Dongola, Northern State, ahead of water connection works and the establishment of water distribution points. The project is part of a life-saving assistance initiative aimed at improving displaced people’s access to safe water.
The project is being implemented under the supervision of the Disaster Assistance and Development Organization’s Northern State office, with funding from Plan Sudan and in cooperation with the Northern State Water Corporation.
The project aims to improve water services and enhance access to safe water sources for displaced people and targeted communities by installing water connections and establishing distribution points within the targeted area.
In this context, Nadia Omar, a volunteer with the Disaster Assistance and Development Organization’s programs in Northern State, told Mashawir that “the project is part of efforts to strengthen access to safe water services and provide distribution points for displaced people.”
She noted that “the partner organizations will continue field monitoring of the work until it is completed and handed over.”
Meanwhile, Majzoub Mohamed Khair, a volunteer activist in Northern State, told Mashawir that “improving water services in areas where displaced people are concentrated is a priority, given the growing needs and increasing pressure on basic services.”
He noted that “providing safe water sources close to residential areas helps reduce the suffering of displaced families and improves health conditions in the area.”
Majzoub added that “continued support for water and sanitation projects in displacement sites requires ongoing coordination among organizations, government authorities, and local communities.”
He called for “monitoring the operation of water points after their establishment and ensuring the sustainability of the service and its regular delivery to beneficiaries.”
