Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, head of the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud) and former Sudanese Prime Minister, said that “a ceasefire is a temporary process, but ending the war means eliminating its root causes.”
Speaking at a seminar held by the Sudanese Civil Forces delegation, Hamdok praised the initiatives aimed at ending the war since the early months of its outbreak, particularly the efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United States in Jeddah, as well as other diplomatic forums.
Hamdok said they support the outcome of the first joint meeting of the Quad and Quintet initiatives, held several days ago in New York, which produced a roadmap for addressing the Sudan crisis. The roadmap called for closer coordination between the political and security tracks and measures to reduce violence and protect civilians in Sudan.
“We proposed that there should be integration between the Quad and the Quintet, and their first joint meeting was held two days ago,” he said.
“In my view, the Quad was the first initiative to state that there can be no decisive military solution or victory,” Hamdok continued. “It also called for excluding those who disrupted political life over the past 30 years and stressed the need to restore civilian rule.”
