Save the Children Supports Schools in Red Sea State

Monitoring – Mashawir

Save the Children has announced the implementation of a school meals program in Sudan’s Red Sea State, targeting 12,401 children across 20 schools in the Port Sudan and Durdeib localities. The initiative aims to enhance school nutrition and improve the learning environment for the most vulnerable children.

The organization stated that the program is part of the EU-funded project “Quality Inclusive Education for the Most Vulnerable Children in Sudan.”

At the project’s launch, school cooks received training on personal hygiene standards, proper nutrition, and food safety and preparation.

Additionally, parent-teacher councils and school staff were trained in budget management, first aid, hygiene, and nutrition, to ensure sustainable management and effective community partnership.

The program also held consultative sessions with children and their mothers to understand their food preferences. All participating schools were supplied with basic kitchen equipment and cooking tools to ensure the provision of nutritious, safe meals that align with local customs.
