Sudanese Women’s Association Condemns the Killing of “Qisma” and Calls for International Intervention to Protect Civilians in Darfur

Following the circulation of a widely shared video that sparked outrage and deep anger across Sudan, showing a young woman tortured to death—her hands and feet bound, suspended from a tree, with a man in RSF uniform standing nearby—the Sudanese National Women’s Association issued a strongly worded statement condemning the killing of citizen Qisma Ali Omar in Zalingei, Central Darfur. The statement denounced the mutilation of her body, her public crucifixion, and her rape before death.
The association also referred to a similar crime previously reported in El Geneina, West Darfur, where victim Khadija Mohammed Khadoug was subjected to the same brutal treatment, including mutilation and desecration of her body—describing it as evidence of a “criminal mentality devoid of law or human values.”
The statement urged international and regional institutions to condemn such crimes, form an independent international fact-finding commission, and bring RSF leaders before the International Criminal Court. It further called for decisive international intervention to protect civilians in Darfur.
For its part, the Rapid Support Forces denied any connection to the circulated video, dismissing it as a “clumsy fabrication promoted by the media arms of the remnants and Islamic movement propaganda.” In its statement, the RSF categorically disowned “any involvement by its members in the footage,” claiming its sole purpose was to smear the group with false accusations of committing torture crimes.
