Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris held a phone call on Friday with Lina Yaqoub, the bureau chief of Al Arabiya and Al Hadath in Sudan, informing her of his official decision to lift the suspension imposed on her by the Ministry of Information two and a half months ago.
During the call, Idris praised Yaqoub and her team for their professional role in reporting events and uncovering the truth, affirming the government’s commitment to supporting press freedom and responsible journalism that serves the public interest.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Information had issued a decision last August suspending Yaqoub from her duties and banning her from carrying out media work inside Sudan—a move that sparked widespread debate in journalistic and human rights circles.
The Prime Minister’s decision to lift the ban comes as part of government efforts to foster a more open media environment and support freedom of expression, while emphasizing adherence to professional standards and applicable laws.
