International Organization for Migration: Escalating Security Tensions Force Thousands to Flee in Darfur

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that 7,075 people have fled the areas of Ambro and the villages of Dronk, Salam Alayk, and Qali Bora in the locality of Krenoi, West North Darfur, due to escalating security tensions.

In a statement, the organization explained that the displaced persons have moved to locations within the localities of Ambro and Krenoi, while the situation remains tense and unstable.

Since December 24, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have launched attacks on areas in Serba as well as the towns of Ambro, Abu Qumra, and Krenoi, despite these areas hosting thousands of internally displaced people.

The forces are seeking to take control of areas in West North Darfur to consolidate their grip on the region, amid expectations of further attacks in the coming days on other towns along the border with Chad.
